Today Nothing Happened...

Today’s diary page… not that I don’t have anything interesting to say. Just busy on a killer deadline… doodled this while I was on the phone.

...oh and I had a couple of beers. That deadline is looking more and more impossible.

Little cup of Crazy

A very quick one of Bjork for the Jam over at Drawingboard.org...

Concept re-dux

A rework of a concept art thing. I salvaged some bit sof the first go. No need to re-invent the entire wheel...

Hang on St. Christopher

Here’s an old Wait’s caricature I never got round to finishing. I played around with it a little bit while waiting for feedback on the paying job I am on now… and this is as far as I got with it. Guess it’ll never be really done.

Concept Art...

Here's a pretty quick painting for one of the projects I am doing concept art and character design for.

Tupelo

John Lee Hooker.

Listen to his song Tupelo, simply amazing.

Strange Fruit...

The Great Nina Simone... she had loads of attitude, but without the lame posing today's artists seem to think is so super-cool.
Edit:
I showed my Number One Critic –my wife- the Nina S caricature she thought I made her unattractive, so I had another go. Here’s a slightly younger Nina than the first…and hopefully this one is less un-flattering too…

Downtown

A quick one of Old Neil again.

Been listening to the Mirrorball album lately. The riff from 'Downtown' is -I think- pretty much a straight redo of the one he played on Warren Zevon's song ‘Sentimental Hygiene’. But it’s a killer anyway, so why not recycle?
Edit: Cleaned this up a little...

Holiday!

This was supposed to be a Elle McPherson caricature, but I lost interest in the likeness, still like it as a drawing though. So I thought I’d pop it on here as the last post for the next week or so. I’ll be off up the coast soaking up sun and beer.

Tough Guy!

I've been meaning to do a Bronson for a while now, mainly because he is in what I think is the best Western ever made: 'Once Upon a Time in the West’. What a movie. The opening sequence alone is worth seeing it for. Faultless direction.

Lucile and her Man

Over on Drawingboard.org there's been a few BB King images posted lately, made me want to try him again.

Close Encounter

Everybody's Favorite Director, never put a foot wrong. With the exception of 'The Crystal Skull' and 'The Terminal' and 'A.I' and 'Hook' and 'The Colour Purple' and 'The Lost World' and... nevermind. But he did a few great ones!

Hit the road Jack!

I've been listening to Ray Charles a LOT lately. Might paint this one up a bit further...

Porcelain Monkey

Inspired by the song 'Porcelain Monkey' by Warren Zevon to do a Elvis caricature. Great lyrics... the man could write!

Kat Jam

Did this -reaaaly quickly- for the Kat-Jam over at Drawingboard.org... funs.
...and a slight edit, added the tatoo pattern to her legs.

A Space Oddity

Two versions of my Kubrick caricature... like the man himself I couldn't make up my mind.

Watched 'Eye's Wide Shut' again recently. And this time round thought it was pretty damn good. Though not a great as 'Paths of Glory', '2001', 'Barry Lyndon' and 'Dr. Strangelove' ... actually , nevermind... all his movies are great.

Don't like 'Clockwork Orange' though.

More Pitch Art...

...for a alltogether different movie... of which I can't say anything either.
Edit: Changed the hands a bit. The first version was a rush, this is better.

Pitch Art

Two images from a series of character designs for a movie, or rather would-be movie. This project is going through the pitch cycle at the moment. A Big-shot Hollywood Producer really liked it, I won't mention names...yet. Here's hoping.

Marion

I recently watched a few John Wayne westerns. Pretty dated but still fun, and I like westerns anyway. When I was a kid I used to borrow a book from the town library that had a great caricature of The Duke on the back cover. I can’t remember who did it but I have an idea that it was a Mullatier, it was brilliant. My little homage…

Butch

A little homage to Paul Newman. Pity Robert Redford, George Roy Hill and Newman didn't get to make a third film together. A 'trilogy' would have been nice.

And another little thing...

One more for the Audrey Hepburn Jam over at Drawingboard.org... done in little spurts between deadlines.

Little thing...

This one bothered me for a long time, and I just erased a line on the bridge of her nose, and what a amazing difference that made. Much better likeness.

Mu Mu Land...

...revisited. This is a old concept art image that I revisited and tweaked a bit.

Mr. Bad Example

A very bad man. It's my little 'Once upon a Time in the West' homage in giving the bad guy these metal struts and braces.

Renegade

…and another one for the same movie. Can’t say too much about these as the film is still in development, but I thought I’d at least share these.

Suzie Lightning

A quick concept job from a while back for a sort of fantasy/Si-Fi/Western type movie.

Back to Black...

... or slightly Purple?

Not a massive fan of Amy, but but she does have a face -and hairdo- worthy of caricature. Looks sort of like a one eared Mickey Mouse...

Neurotic’s Jackpot!

I've been listening to cd’s of Woody Allen’s stand-up comedy. Amazingly clever and brilliant stuff. Not like today’s ‘comedians’…

Daddy's Little Helper

BPRB of Fate... redux

Had some time to work on the ‘big project’ again. Progress on this is so slow that when I’m finally ready to un-veil it in it's entirety it’ll be time to shuffle of the old mortal coil and join the choir invisible...

New banner et al...

Thought it was time to tart up the old blob with pretty colours and razzle dazzle. For the vibe of the thing...

Mission Impossible

Charlize Theron... or is it? It's just about impossible to do a caricature of her in my opinion. There is nothing to exaggerate, her features are all so perfectly proportional they have to be drawn to be believed.

Quite Taken

I went to see Taken and was 'quite taken' with the movie. It's a pretty cool action flick. And seeing Liam Neeson up on screen made me want to do a caricature of the guy. Very unique face, the man has.

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

...and another of those ones...

Been itching to do some of this type of work again ... popped out while I was playing around. As it does.

Smooth Al

Here's a character I designed for Double A paper. I only recently realised they made the ad and it's been running for a couple of years. Guess it proves I don't watch too much tv.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CZEJEReFDw

And something a little different...

...just to break the caricature type thing that has sort of taken over for a bit. Now back to caricatures!

Next! ... part II

To accompany the Barak Obama post from a while back… Michele Obama. She has fantastic face to caricature.

Friday, August 8, 2008

Forrest for the Trees...

'I've got blisters on fingers!'...all those lines. I thought Forrest Whittaker would be easy to get, but he was really tricky to nail.

Saving Tom Hanks...

After seeing a Tom Hanks caricature over on Drawingboard.org I was curious to see what I'd make of him...
